Irregular Menses

Like many other gynecological symptoms, irregular menses, i.e., a late or “missed” period, can have many causes; it takes a highly skilled medical doctor to make a correct diagnosis. Fortunately, the skilled gynecologists of Beverly Hills Physicians are here to help.

Of course, by far the best known and most common cause of irregular menses is pregnancy. In women in their middle years, it is also often a sign of the arrival of menopause. There are, however, a great many other medical conditions where irregular and/or excessive menses may be a factor. In fact, irregular bleeding defines a number of disorders, including Oligomenorrhea (infrequent periods), Polymenorrhea (frequent bleeding), and Menometrorrhagia (excessive bleeding that is unpredictable).

Of course, excessive and/or irregular menses can also mark a number of more involved ailments. Two frequent causes are uterine fibroids and endometriosis, one of the most common causes of menstrual pain. The latter is a condition in which the lining of the uterus moves outside the uterus and starts to produce blood flow. There are numerous other possible causes of menstrual changes that can include excessive exercise, stress, eating disorders, drug use, and even breast feeding, which can delay the return of menstruation following a pregnancy.

Whether you are experiencing unexplained irregular bleeding, or suspect that you may be experiencing problems related to fibroids or endometriosis pain, then it’s time to visit the widely respected medical doctors of Beverly Hills Physicians. Our board certified medical doctors are known not only for their ability to sift through information to render a correct diagnosis, but also for their sensitivity, openness to patients’ needs, and their compassionate approach.
