Tummy Tuck Revision

If you are considering plastic or cosmetic surgery, take our 4 step quiz:

Tummy Tuck Revision

A tummy tuck revision is intended to correct or improve on a previous body contouring procedure where the results are disappointing or problematic. Beverly Hills Physicians’ outstanding team of plastic surgeons understands the heartache that an unsuccessful procedure can bring. We are here to do whatever we can to correct issues and leave our patients looking and feeling their best.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a procedure that removes excess fat and skin in order to tighten and flatten the appearance of the abdomen. When performed properly, the results of a successful tummy tuck surgery are a firmer and flatter abdomen in the large majority of cases. However, if the procedure is not done correctly or an unfortunate circumstance emerges, unwelcome results are possible. Fortunately, these issues can be effectively dealt with.

Abnormal Scarring

Some scarring is expected from any kind of surgery. When performed correctly, however, tummy tuck scarring should be minimal. With proper healing, it should be easily hidden from view.

Unfortunately, tummy tucks are not always performed as well as possible. If mistakes are made – improper closing techniques are one example — the scar might be too high on the abdomen or too large and/or irregularly shaped. For patients who may have been motivated partly by the desire to wear certain types of more revealing clothing, this can be a major disappointment. Fortunately, a skilled plastic surgeon can often significantly reduce this type of scarring.

The Umbilicus

Since the umbilicus – more commonly known as the navel or belly button – is at the center of the stomach, any issues in this region will be all too obvious whenever the midriff is exposed. When abnormal scar healing distorts the shape, size, and/or positioning of the navel, a tummy tuck revision reduce or repair this issue in many cases.

Uneven Surface

Every patient who gets a tummy tuck is looking forward to a smoother, more toned abdomen. When a procedure goes awry, however, uneven midsection problems may result. The most frequent of these deformities include:

Dog Ears are folds that occur most commonly on the sides of the incision and appear next to scarring. This is a fairly common side effect that BHP plastic surgeons can usually address very effectively.

Group 1

Pseudobursa are conspicuous bulges that form under the abdominal soft tissue following surgery due to a pocket of thick scar tissue. Often part of the body’s natural healing process, pseudobursa commonly form above the waistline incision or above the belly button. While smaller pseudobursa can be reduced via draining or liposuction, others require a tummy tuck revision.
