Shed the Pounds, and Dangerous Health Effects of Obesity

Behind smoking, obesity is now the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It is so bad that many experts are classifying obesity as a real epidemic that will, and already is having severe effects on the health of our nation. Even worse, being overweight brings with it a variety of other dangerous co-morbidities including heart disease, high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes. Yet, weight loss surgery with Beverly Hills Physicians is one of the best ways to combat all of these problems.

For years, it has been known that weight loss surgery is an outstanding way for obese patients to lose weight, but it has been proven recently that it is also an outstanding way for many patients to send these dangerous health effects into remission. One study showed that many bariatric patients who previously had Type 2 diabetes no longer had it after losing their excess weight. Another study showed that people who were at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes were less likely to develop the disease after bariatric surgery.

It is also important to note that procedures like the gastric sleeve surgery are much safer than many people think. Many patients opt for a lap band revision to gastric sleeve after they find that they are not losing weight as quickly as they had hoped with the Lap Band. This procedure is as safe as the others. Some misinformed people have a perception that weight loss surgery is a dangerous procedure, but it is shown that the rate of complications for bariatric surgery is no higher than that of common procedures such as an appendectomy.
