Since 1997, there has been a massive 273 percent increase in the number of plastic surgery procedures performed on men every year. Much of that growth has happened in the past five years, as men are feeling increasingly confident about the positive effects of plastic surgery on their work and social lives. Indeed, our experienced surgeons here at Beverly Hills Physicians are taking on more male patients every day, with many of those patients becoming repeat patients after seeing the effects that their surgical and non-surgical procedures can have on their appearance. While liposuction is currently the leading procedure for both men and women, the following three procedures have seen the biggest five year increase amongst men:

  1. Facelifts (44% increase) – As surgeons’ abilities to conduct a facelift without noticeable scarring becomes more advanced, more and more men are viewing the facelift procedure as an effective way to take years off of their appearance. While the facelift is only the fifth most popular procedure as far as total number of procedures performed, it is the fastest growing by far.
  2. Blepharoplasty (34% increase) – More commonly known as eyelid surgery, blepharoplasties are becoming more and more popular amongst men, as they are seeing them as an extremely effective way to eliminate bags and sagging around the eyes. For many men, aging and years of stress has created unattractive bags under their eyes which will not go away no matter how much sleep they get. Our surgeons can perform either a lower blepharoplasty, which is aimed mainly at these bags and lower eyelids, or an upper blepharoplasty, which targets sagging above the eye. In some cases, upper eyelid sagging can be so severe that it can interfere with peripheral vision.
  3. Male Breast Reduction (33% increase) – A strictly male procedure that is rising in popularity is male breast reduction to fight gynecomastia, a relatively common condition that causes enlarged male breasts. Gynecomastia often creates extreme embarrassment in male sufferers because of the social stigmas placed on any man with a somewhat feminine looking chest. This procedure involves a combination of liposuction and glandular surgery to remove some of the hormonal effects of gynecomastia. Men who elect the male breast reduction procedure with us regularly tell their doctors how much more confident they are with their new, more masculine looking chest.

While there are a number of other procedures that are popular amongst male patients, these three are growing faster than any others. If you have any questions regarding these procedures, or any others, give us a call!
