That’s why we were delighted to read a recent article in the Daily News, which explored a study that found consuming probiotics can help women with weight loss. Published by scientists from food and yogurt company Nestle’s research lab and Universite Laval in Quebec, researchers conducting the study found that that obese women who add probiotics – commonly found in yogurt – to their diet could lose twice as much weight as those who don’t.
The researchers recruited 125 overweight men and women who were put on a 12-week weight loss diet, with another 12-week maintenance program following. Half the participants took a probiotic pill during the 24-week period, while the remaining half took a placebo. By the end of the study, women in the probiotic group lost weight for an average total of 11 lbs per person, while the placebo group remained stable.
