As noted in the March issue of Heathline News, late last year the American Society of Plastic Surgeons put out a report pointing to a major increase in two types of procedures: facial rejuvenation and procedures that utilize fat injections. That certainly seems to be what we’re seeing here at BHP’s offices.
Regarding fat transfer-based procedures, by far the biggest change we’ve noticed comes in the area of buttock augmentation. The procedure commonly referred to as the Brazilian butt lift differs from older surgeries, which relied on silicone implants similar to those we use in breast augmentation. It might seem very obvious, but breasts and buttocks are really not the same! We’ve found that using fat grafts provides dramatically better results for buttock surgeries in most cases. Specifically, using unwanted fat obtained from elsewhere in the body via liposuction give us the freedom to sculpt the rear-end so that it looks and feels more natural, while also being as attractive as possible. Brazilian butt lifts are also less likely to result in complications, so it’s a win-win all-around
And, yes, facial rejuvenation techniques have been gaining in popularity largely because the number of options continues to rise. While such tried and true surgeries as facelifts, neck lifts, and eyelid lifts remain the gold standard for long-term improvements that create a younger, more rested look, the number of alternatives continue to increase. Most people have heard of Botox, an injection-based treatment that has a number of benefits in terms of fighting wrinkling in the face. Now, other options are coming to the forefront, including facial fillers like Juvederm, and Kybella, an injectable that removes double chins without the need for surgery.
