Foot Pain

Sometimes we experience foot pain and do not know the cause.  We ask ourselves: what could I have done to my foot?  If you’ve been wearing poorly fitting shoes or sprained  your ankle, it’s easy to figure out the source of your foot pain. However, a lot of foot pain is the result of medical conditions such as arthritis, high blood pressure, pregnancy or diabetes.  In fact, any medical condition that causes an imbalance or poor circulation can cause foot pain. Therefore, if you experience any foot pain, you should visit one of our Podiatry offices in Beverly Hills, Encino, Thousand Oaks, Valencia, Pasadena, Long Beach and Oxnard.

Below are some general causes of foot pain:

  1. Shoes, shoes, shoes! If you are wearing ill fitting shoes such as high heels or cowboy boots that either pinch or cause excessive pressure on your toes and feet, stop wearing these shoes and give your feet a break. Even if the shoes look terrific, they aren’t worth the damage to your feet. You will be surprised how fast your foot pain leaves once you start wearing proper footwear.
  2. Posture—are you walking around with your shoulders slouched?  It’s time to take your Mother’s advice and stand up straight because improper walking due to poor posture can cause foot pain.
  3. Temperature changes—Perhaps the source of your foot pain is as simple as the weather. Weather fluctuations can cause temporary changes in foot size and shape–feet contract with cold and expand with heat. These changes in size and shape may result in foot pain.
  4. High Impact Exercising—Are you doing the same high impact workout over and over? This repetitive motion may be putting a lot of stress on your feet which can  result in corns, calluses, blisters, muscle cramps, acute knee and ankle injuries, plantar fasciitis, and metatarsalgia. Try adding some variety to your workouts such as alternating days between jogging and swimming. This will reduce the amount of stress you put on your feet and joints. Plus, it will keep your work out from getting boring.
