We’ve found that bariatric weight loss surgeries can be remarkably effective at helping to boost a person’s health. Further still, there’s no denying that weight loss treatment often leads to the substantial confidence boost that comes with a more aesthetically-pleasing figure. Unfortunately, however, those who lose substantial quantities of weight can sometimes suffer from sagging skin on the upper arms, thighs or buttocks, as well as other issues that obscure one’s natural beauty. Yet, these are precisely the types of problems that can be alleviated by the artful cosmetic procedures performed by our outstanding surgeons. In fact, a new study has found that undergoing cosmetic surgery after weight loss surgery can actually help obese patients to maintain a healthy weight.
Science World Report details the study, which was completed at the Henry Ford Hospital. Researchers found that patients who underwent plastic surgery after weight loss treatment to reshape their bodies would actually maintain greater weight loss compared to those who did not undergo any surgery. “Of the [bariatric] patients who underwent contouring surgery, the average decrease in BMI was 18.24 at 2.5 years, compared to a statistically significant 12.45 at 2. 5 years for those who did not have further surgery,” said Dr. Donna Tepper, the senior author of the study.
This is terrific news for weight loss surgery patients. It means that looking better will also help motivate them to adhere to the important lifestyle changes they will need to ensure they maintain a healthy weight for years to come.
