What is your background?
I was born in Cairo, Egypt where I attended a French Jesuit school. My father who was a surgeon taught me early on the ropes of the business. I decided to move to the United States in 1979 to chart my own territory. I am in good standing with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the International Society of Craniofacial surgery.
What is your specialty?
I have had extensive training in the area of aesthetic plastic surgery; it is the type of surgery I am most passionate about. For the past ten years, I have limited my practice to aesthetic surgery of the entire body. This decision was based on my desire to help the many patients who travel to my offices from across the country.
What inspires you?
What really inspires me are the mental logarithms of technical surgery. Any procedure should fulfill certain criteria to merit the designation of “cutting edge”; it should be safe and deliver predictably “improved” results, we all agree on these two attributes. However, an operation should also be “reproducible” in its technical ease to the point of being very fast in the way it is executed.
What is the Mercator Abdominoplasty?
The Mercator Abdominoplasty is a precise way of individually mapping the tummy tuck operation. With this technique, the patient’s body dictates to the surgeon the resection (excision) and closure patterns. This allows for a more precise and vastly quicker (thus safer) operation that yields superior results; better scar placement, improved symmetry, rejuvenation of the Mons pubis, and a youthful looking belly button.
What do you like to do when you are not in the operating room?
I enjoy playing classical guitar and writing. I also enjoy spending time with my family – My wife Candi and I share six kids, like the Brady Bunch- three girls and three boys. Candi has been my number one critic and fan; my traveling companion; my office manager; my scrub nurse and my best friend. She keeps me humble and properly grounded.
