What is your background?
I am a Southern California native. I grew up in Orange County with a father that was an innovative General Surgeon in Hunington Beach and a mother who is a teacher. I come from a family of surgeons that includes my father and my three brothers who are all surgeons. So you could say it is in my blood. I obtained my medical degree in 1994 from Case Western Reserve Univeristy in Cleveland and I completed my Plastic Surgery and General Residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 2000. I can proudly say that I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. On a personal level, I have been happily married for 15 years and I have three sons, aged 13, 10, and 7.
Why did you choose Plastic Surgery?
Plastic Surgery for me, is the most exciting and innovative field in all of medicine. I operate on healthy patients of all ages, and perform both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. I really love helping patients feel more confident in their own skin. I had a cosmetic procedure myself when I was a young man. I had a rhinoplasty so I know what it means to be a patient. I have been through the stress and the worry of what will I look like, so I come in to being a surgeon from a very knowlegable perspective. I feel it is the only field of medicine that is both an art and a science. I am passionate about my work and am a perfectionist.
Why did you choose to bring your expertise to a multiple doctor/disciplinary practice like BHP?
I chose to join BHP because I know they only work with the best doctors and always put patient needs first. I also share the philosophy that elective surgery is not just for the most affluent, everyone deserves the chance to look and feel their best. I love being part of a practice that helps make plastic surgery a reality for those that desire it.
What do you like to do when you are not in the operating room?
I like to spend my spare time traveling with my family, water sports and snow skiing are our favorite vacation activities. Once my sons are old enough I hope to take many river rafting trips with them. In addition to traveling I also like to play the drums and piano, and I am currently learning how to play the guitar. When I am not operating I like to keep in shape by working out at the gym, swimming and regularly running half marathons. To date, I have completed seven of them and hope to continue to stay healthy and run for the rest of my life. After all, I know that feeling great about myself only makes me even better at helping others achieve their own goals.
