If you are considering Chin and Cheek Implants…
Chin and cheek implants are cosmetic surgery options, which is often overlooked. With these procedures plastic surgeon is able to bring harmony to your face and create a stronger appearance. If the chin implant is chosen properly, it can even enhance the appearance of your nose. Chin and cheek implants can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a face lift, forehead lift, neck lift, nose reshaping surgery or an eyelid surgery.
The best candidates for a Chin and Cheek Implants surgery
The best candidate for facial chin and cheek implants is a man or woman who lost facial volume and wish to enhance bony structures, such as a weak chin or flat cheekbones. Some of the clients consider chin implants due to a weak chin, which can make an average-sized nose appear large. Others consider prominent cheekbones to be attractive and because they have low or flat cheekbones they wish with cheek augmentation to achieve this aesthetic ideal. Chin augmentation can bring the entire profile into harmony.
Most patients are in their thirties to fifties. However, the older the patient is as the time of this cosmetic surgery, the less likely he will be pleased with his new facial structure, because over the years we become accustomed to our basic facial features.
Chin and cheek implants can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self-confidence in the process. But it can’t give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of your youth. If you are looking for improvement, not perfection, in your appearance and are realistic in your expectations, you may find that a facial implant is the right choice for you. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with plastic surgeon.
Preparation for Cheek and Chin Implants surgery
You should come to the operation without make-up. Pharmaceuticals containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpirin, Aspirin, and Anopyrin etc.) should not be used for 3 weeks before the surgery, as they decrease clotting time of blood.
In case you are a smoker you are advised to stop smoking or at least to cut down on cigarettes. Smoking slows down recovery process and it can also increase a risk or complications. Smoking significantly reduces your body’s superficial circulation and vascularity. This means difficulty in bringing much needed oxygen to your tissues for proper healing.
Operation
Cheek Implants
The surgery is performed under a short general anaesthesia – 1 hour. Cheek implants are used to help replace tissue lost. These implants are made of alloplastic material, meaning that they are not biological in origin. After the surgeon inserts them, they stay intact and do not get absorbed into the body. Cheek implants are placed through a transconjunctival way – it means that the incision is made inside of your lower eyelids. There are no scars visible after this surgery.
Chin Implants
Chin implantation is performed under a short general anaesthesia, which takes 1 hour. Plastic surgeon places the incision in your mouth to avoid a visible scar. It also allows the surgeon to place a chin implant directly in front of your chin bone. The implants have a shape of horse-shoe and are made of a prosthetic material. After the plastic surgeon inserts them, they stay intact and do not get absorbed into the body. Plastic surgeon will instruct you about dental hygiene, eating and any restrictions to your activities after surgery.
Post-operational Course
During the first few days after the operation you are advised to sleep strictly on the back so as to prevent swelling on one side or, as the case may be, larger post-operational bruises. Following chin implant surgery you will be wearing support bandage around your chin for 1 week after the surgery.
The speed of the healing is individual. Swelling after chin implant lasts 1–2 weeks and 2–3 weeks after cheek implants.
Dissolving stitches are used for cheek and chin implantation surgery, which do not require removal. You will be presentable in public within 2 weeks – swelling will be the limiting factor. The final result will be seen in 1–2 months. You can exercise again in 3–4 weeks after the surgery.
How will I feel after the surgery?
You will probably feel tired, sleepy and suffer from pain especially in 1–3 days after the surgery. You will be given some painkillers and tablets for reducing the swelling. The surgeon will also prescribe antibiotics as a prevention of any potential infection.
