October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Beverly Hills Physicians (BHP) is making it easy to give back. BHP is pairing up with the Bra Recyclers by collecting gently used bras at BHP’s offices throughout Southern California, including in Beverly Hills, Carson, Encino, Rancho Cucamonga, and Thousand Oaks (see below for the full addresses).

These bras will be prepared and sent to the Bra Recyclers, who will then donate them to women in need. Local women’s shelters receive most of these donations, but women who have recently had a mastectomy and/or breast reconstruction can also apply for bras through the company’s site. As the cosmetic surgeons and employees of Beverly Hills Physicians—and their patients—know, a well-fitting bra can boost self-confidence, provide strength, and offer support—in every sense of the word.

The Bra Recyclers state that bras are one of the most requested items in women’s shelters; the Beverly Hills Physicians community wants to help women in need during these difficult times. Bras of all sizes and styles are encouraged, as long as they are in good or new condition. Larger-sized bras and specialty bras (like for nursing, post-mastectomy, and prostheses) are accepted. For those without bras to donate, the Bra Recyclers and BHP encourage readers to pull together donations from friends, family members, and co-workers.

Beverly Hills Physicians collects bras all year round for the program; so those interested in participating can donate when they are able. Nonetheless, the additional focus on breast cancer and overall breast health this month means that BHP sees the most response every year during October.

With 85% of textiles going to landfills according to the Bra Recyclers, this collection drive also benefits the environment. Keeping wearable bras out of landfills while assisting women in times of transition makes this an incredible opportunity for those affiliated with BHP to give back to their community during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At the very least, the team at Beverly Hills Physicians hopes that this bra collection drive will bring awareness to the many issues involved.

The Bra Recyclers initiative is just one way that Beverly Hills Physicians is giving back this October. A portion of BHP’s proceeds from all breast augmentation procedures performed in October will be donated to a local charity supporting breast cancer research. A Girls Night Out fundraiser is also planned for later this month.
